It’s shrove Tuesday – aka – pancake day! A day when lots of people get to gorge on their gorgeous sticky pancakes of choice – sweet ones, savoury ones and plain old lemon and sugar ones…. fantastic. And if you are going to fast/give up/live simply for lent then why not? It’s all about loading up before a fast, right..?
I wonder how many of us are actually fasting or ‘doing lent’ though, really?
This year I am ‘doing lent’. Mainly because I have packed on the pounds by being in my winter cave (nothing wrong with that!) and it’s time to emerge anew with a good old kick start: I am going to do 100% raw and mostly juicing for lent. Now you might think – oh it’s easy for you – that’s hardly a challenge is it? You are the Go-To Girl for Raw! Well, it IS a challenge as I am not 100% raw any more so it’s no longer my habit. And too many naughties have slipped in to the diet too and there’s been LOTS of recipe testing/creating. And I’ve just gotten very lazy with my fitness.
Plus as I am in the middle of recipe creating for the new book – the house is full, and I mean full, of food. Because of my tight deadlines I can’t make ‘1 dish a week’ we are talking 8 a day or 10 a week depending on the schedule. Every night I am passing food out to the neighbours and making sure it doesn’t all get thrown away.
I would love to do juice only for lent – but realised that with recipe testing comes recipe tasting and its something that I cannot avoid at the moment (there are worse jobs out there, right..?)
So, I am starting a day early by skipping pancake day (again because of the recipe testing for the book and so I can’t handle the kitchen challenge of navigating the noodle mania around here to dehydrate some banana paste or coconut blend to make a raw pancake). Although, they are seriously good. I recommend!

So today you will find me pigging out on bananas – and veggie juices while I get noodley in the kitchen.
