My very first interview this year was an interview with First for Women Magazine in the US. I was really excited about the prospect of talking about juicing! And the magazine publication was due out around the same time as my Explore Raw website was due to launch so it was a fabulous, crazy, busy time!
I talked to the lovely interviewer about my PCOS, weight-loss and juicing. I was truly over the moon and very excited to see my article in print! When I first read the article it was the FIRST TIME that my weight loss stats and my story about PCOS had been aired. ANYWHERE! So this was a big deal – sharing the inside scoop on some PCOS symptoms and what life was like with heavy periods. It was a bit nail-biting. I wasn’t sure how people would respond.
Sharing the story that I had once slept in the bath tub to avoid relentless bathroom visits in the night… it couldn’t have been more exposing. The kind of thing you wouldn’t want your colleagues to read.
And then it happened.
I got mail. I got lots of mail. I got lots of mail from lots of wonderful women who said, ‘THANK YOU! I thought it was just me!” “I have that too! I thought I was the only one!” “I am so glad you shared that. I now can see that I am not alone” “Thank you. You are an inspiration. I can see light at the end of the tunnel.”
To know that I had an impact on just one person was amazing. To know that my story reached out to someone else was just absolutely humbling. To know that my story connected so many of us was just incredible. I am truly grateful.
The message for me in sharing this with you is this: being authentic and sharing our stories is what connects people to us and the world around us. There is no other story.
